TUAT is a national university corporation with a long history and tradition, celebrating the 150th anniversary of its foundation in 2024, and is committed to contributing to world peace and the advancement of science and technology in harmony with society and the natural environment through education and research based on free thinking in agricultural science, engineering, and their interdisciplinary fields, while striving to develop human resources and create knowledge to solve problems and realize the goal. TUAT has conducted research and development on bio-jet fuel production, which was adopted by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and the National Institute of Science and Technology Development (JST). Furthermore, in December 2023, we were selected for the "Project for Strengthening Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities" (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), in which we started R&D on SAF production using inedible oil plants as raw material.
In April 2024, we also established the "Open Platform on International Environmental Certification and New Raw Material Development for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)" (SAF-OP) as a university-led open innovation forum, and are building an industry-academia-government collaboration system for the social implementation and commercialization of SAF.
