The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is accelerating its efforts to achieve "Zero Emission Tokyo," which will contribute to virtually zero global CO2 emissions by 2050, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, with the goal of becoming the Carbon Half of the world. Working together with various entities, including residents and businesses, Tokyo will strive to realize a green and resilient world city, Tokyo, where "growth" and "maturity" are compatible, sustainable, safe, secure, comfortable, and open to the future.
Since FY2023, TMG has been conducting a campaign and other activities to collect waste cooking oil, which is used as a raw material for SAF, in cooperation with businesses. One is Ito-Yokado's project to collect waste cooking oil at its stores and online supermarkets using returnable bottles. The other is a project to collect waste cooking oil from households and commercial buildings and conduct environmental education on the production and use of SAF using waste cooking oil by JGC Holdings, Cosmo Oil, Revo International's SAF campaign, etc. In FY2024, we are recruiting companies to develop SAF production technology using waste from the Tokyo area. In FY2024, the TMG will publicly invite companies that are engaged in the development of SAF production technology using waste oil in Tokyo, and study the construction of a route to transport the waste oil to SAF production facilities with a view to establishing a commercial plant in the future. Through these efforts, the TMG will actively support the production of domestically produced SAF.
