Marubeni is a general trading company with diversified business activities in a wide range of fields including food, energy, electric power, infrastructure projects, aviation and shipping, as well as import/export (including foreign trade), domestic and foreign business investment and resource development.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is aiming for virtually zero CO2 emissions by 2050, and the widespread use of low environmental impact aviation fuel (SAF) is key.
Marubeni aims to contribute to the decarbonization of the aviation sector and the fight against climate change through various initiatives to promote SAF, such as importing SAF and conducting feasibility studies for domestic production and sales.
In June 2024, Marubeni began supplying the Japanese market with SAF produced in Korea, which is manufactured by a co-processing process that simultaneously processes petroleum-derived feedstock and bio-based feedstock (waste cooking oil).
This is the first SAF supply using the co-processing method in Japan. We will continue our efforts to further expand our supply network and build a stable SAF supply chain.
